Homemade Oat Milk – GF and DF

It is easier than you think and definitely cheaper than the ready milk you buy.

For 1 part of rolled oats, you need 3 parts of water and a sweetener that you can choose.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of rolled oats
  • 6 cups of water (you will use them in 2 times)
  • Pinch of salt
  • Sweetener: I used 1 tablespoon honey but other alternatives are dried dates, sugar, maple syrup or whichever homemade syrup that you have home (I will be using this next time)
  • Spices for extra smell. I used half a spoon of cinnamon but you can use whatever you like

Procedure

  • Let the oats with the 3 cups of water and the pinch of salt in bowl for a day
  • Wash the oats very thoroughly and keep the pulp
  • Add the pulp in a mixer with your sweetener, your herbs and 3 more cups of water. Since my mixer is small and I could only add one cup, then I was adding slowly the other 2 cups in the next step
  • Drain the pulp in a glass bottle. I used a tea strainer and worked pretty fine
  • Keep the remaining pulp and use it for cakes, muffins or whatever you wish… Recipes follow below

The oat milk will be separating in the fridge but this is not an issue. Just shake it before using it and consume it in a couple of days.

After doing the oat milk, you can use the remaining pulp to do quick dessert! From the 1 cup I used to make the oat milk, I had 120gr of oat pulp in the end.  I tried to do 2 different recipes. Both were GF, one was with rice and the other one was with coconut. Here you can find both recipes:

Oat balls with coconut

Oat balls with rice

GF stands for gluten free.

DF stands for dairy free.
