Do not let the name confuse you! It is not so closely related with the strawberry we all know. This fruit is also called madrone, cane apple or cain.
Even if we made this marmalade from spanish trees fruits, this tree is actually the national tree of Italy, due to the colors of the leaves and berries, that remind the italian flag.
This tree can regrow after fires, so it is an ideal candidate for reforestation in Mediterranean.
Ingredients
- 1kg madrones
- 200gr sugar
- 1 teaspoon lemon
- 1/2 lemon juice
- rose geranium for the aroma or lemon peel
Steps
- Boil the madrones for around 15 minutes and keep on steering cause they might get burned at the bottom
- You have to pass them through a sieve and you will end up with a bit more that the half. I got 570gr from 1080gr, that was my initial batch
- Boil it again with the sugar and the lemon peel or rose geranium, whatever you choose.
- Use our method if you will to sterilize the jars (the post is also linked below)
- Fill the jars with the marmalade and place them upside down
- Add stickers with the kind of marmalade and the date you did it
