
This is the typical bread that will be brought to the church for an artoklasia. You can read more about this in the bibliography. This bread is used in the process of lity.
Ingredients
- 220ml water
- 9gr dry yeast
- 50gr sugar
- 25gr olive oil
- 225gr bread flour
- 175gr all purpose flour
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- 2gr salt
- 10gr anise
- Sesame, almonds, raisins for decoration – optional
- 1 teaspoon honey and 2 tablespoons hot water for coating the bread – optional
Steps
- Mix the dry yeast with warm water. The water shouldn´t be too warm cause you will kill the yeast.
- Add the olive oil and then all the rest of the ingredients
- Knit at least for a couple of minutes and let it rest.
- When it doubles in size, shape it and let it rest again till it doubles
- Before baking it, you can add on the surface the water with the honey and then some sesame
- Bake in a preheated oven of 170° Celsius till you see that the bread is nicely brown on top
