The yogurt in this recipe gives a lovely creamy texture to the cheesepie!
Ingredients
- filo dough – homemade dough will also do – check in the end of the post for our recipe
- 200gr feta cheese
- 30gr hard cheese
- 1 cup greek yogurt
- 1 egg
- 1/2 onion
- 2-3 spring onions (if you do not have or you do not wish to use them, use 1 onion and none of spring onions)
- red hot chili pepper in case you want it spicy
- 6-10 leaves of greens (spinach or kale or whatever you have) – optional
- olive oil
- salt – optional because feta is already quite salty normally-you can taste the filling before adding the egg
- Freshly grounded pepper
- dried herbs that match well: oregano, thyme, dill
- sesame – optional to put on top of the pie
Steps
- Cut the onion in dices
- Add olive oil in a pan and when it is warm, add the onion and the chili pepper
- Cook the onion and the white part of the spring onions till transparent
- Add the green parts of the spring onions and/or the leaves of green if you are using some
- Stop the fire and when it cools down, add the yogurt and mix well
- Add the egg and mix well
- Use a fork or your hands to divide feta in smaller pieces and add them to your mix
- Add pepper and spices to the mix
- Place your filo on a flat surface, add a bit of your mix in the middle and then roll it and fold it like in the video
- You can follow the video to make a streeftee cheesepie or you can just place the filo (better 2 of them) in your baking pan, add your mix inside and then bake it with or without dough on the upper part (like an open pie)
- If you followed the video or you have filo also on the upper part of the cheesepie, add some olive oil on top and some sesame if you wish
- Bake it in 180 degrees till its golden brown (in my oven it take around 40 minutes)
