The greek yogurt is quite famous and even if it is an apparently easy food to find, outside Greece is difficult to find a good one. That is why we decided to start making it ourselves. We had still Federica home and she showed us once more how to make it! When I was living in Italy, in Turin she used to do it very often but since I was getting from her yogurt, I didn´t really bother to make myself. Now is the time though!
What you will need
- 1 (one) lt of milk
- 1/2 a cup from a yogurt that you like (we got a “greek” one) – Or one cup of whey from preciously made yogurt
- a thermometer
How to make it
- Boil the milk
- Let it cool down till 38 C and add the yogurt
- Mix the yogurt with the milk
- cover it with a towel and let it in a warm place (we put it over the playstation and under the aquarium…)
- Next day you should have a wonderful diy yogurt!!!!
You can see above, that I used the rest of the homemade yogurt and some whey to make this new homemade yogurt


Tip 1: If you want to make the yogurt more dense, before adding the yogurt, boil the milk a couple of times more. So boil it, let it a bit cool down and then boil it again.
Tip 2: If you got a runny yogurt like me the first time I tried to do yogurt, then put it in the over in 50 C and leave it there for a couple of hours. If it is runny could mean that the yogurt didn’t have enough high temperature to solidify, so you are giving it extra help.
